Abstract

THE AIM OF THE PAPER
The purpose of our study is to publish the first results of our pilot study aimed at exploring the relationships between work-family balance, employee satisfaction and factors influencing workplace well-being. The topicality of the topic is given by the new challenges continuously generated by the rapidly changing external environment, during the management of which the need for organizations to retain valuable workforce and, in connection with this, to ensure employee satisfaction and employee well-being is increasingly valued compared to the previous ones.

METHODOLOGY
In accordance with the inclusion criteria determined during the sampling procedure, 46 (n=46) medium or large-sized companies operating in Hungary with a mixed profile in terms of the number of employees were included in the research database providing the starting point. Following the literature review and processing, an online questionnaire survey was conducted in the data collection phase. During the processing of the data from 205 main respondents, we conducted analyses focusing on work-family conflicts, work-life satisfaction, and the correlations showing the impact of workplace conditions and social relationships.

MOST IMPORTANT RESULTS
A strong, significant positive relationship (r = 0.590, p < 0.01) between “Work-family conflict” and “Work-family conflict” indicates that the conflicts arising in different directions between the aforementioned areas of life significantly affect each other. The aforementioned variables are also negatively and significantly correlated with job and life satisfaction, as well as with dimensions measuring positive experiences at work (‘Positive Emotions’, ‘Immersion’ or ‘Positive Relationships’), which suggests that conflicts significantly reduce employees’ perceived satisfaction
and positive psychological state.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Since the results clearly highlight that reducing conflicts and promoting a supportive workplace environment are key to increasing employee satisfaction, it is recommended to develop organizational well-being strategies and apply related measures to enhance well-being at work.
