Abstract

THE AIM OF THE PAPER

The aim of the study is to summarise the changes in the use of IT and digitalisation in the field of procurement over the last decade. Taking into account the models offered by previous research, we examine changes in benefit expectations using a nine-year data series. Taking into account the growth of digitalisation in procurement, organisations can identify its potential depending on their level of development, resulting in their own procurement improvement strategy. The interpretation of the results will also highlight business considerations that may hinder the digitalisation of procurement.

METHODOLOGY

The analysis compares respondents' views using five research frameworks that explore different levels and activities of e-procurement in different logics. The benefits identified through the research are coded according to the five frameworks

MOST IMPORTANT RESULTS

Increased efficiency, process improvement, innovation and organisational benefits are observed in the responses of domestic purchasers. In addition to the emphasis on compliance, control and reporting activities, efficiency and cost reduction issues are the most highlighted in comparison to the last almost ten years. During the period under review, the digitalisation of procurement has not changed the behaviour of market players, they attach different importance to technological issues, but it does not mean that all technological and data protection problems have been solved.

RECOMMENDATIONS

According to the practical proposal on digitalisation, the digitalisation of procurement is not only important for efficiency or cost reduction in the traditional sense, but also has a direct impact on improving compliance and innovation. The research provides new perspectives for advanced procurement planning in the design of digitalisation.
