Indicators having impact on the performance of the SMEs – systematic literature review
The aim of the paper
The aim of the paper is to identify the most dominant indicators having impact on the performance of the SMEs. The applied methodology was the systematic literature review (SLR) with the PRISMA model. This enables to know when this topic was most researched, and which are the most recent publications. Besides it gives clear understanding about the latest trends in SME management having impact on their performance.
Methodology
The study applies the SLR to investigate publications in the field of SMEs and management between 2015-2022. For this, the Scopus and the Web of Science databases were analysed by the articles’ publishing year and topic. Through the PRISMA model first the titles and the abstracts were reviewed then the list was constrained by processing the whole studies. That results 43 relevant articles.
Results
It was established that exploring the dominant indicators having impact on the performance of the SMEs is a relevant topic, abundant international literature dealt with it. 13 indicators were identified by the SLR that have influence on the performance of the SMEs. For this, 43 articles were altered, and it is considered that the most dominant indicator is the entrepreneurial orientation, as 25% of the publications mentioned it. The publications contain the partnership and the role of the government in the lowest percentage still they could have significant effect on performance.
Recommendations
Besides the actuality of the topic and the most substantial indicators the research gives opportunity to get the most relevant keywords along with international authors frequently publishing in the topic. The results highlight the importance of the different management areas and give opportunity for the SMEs to develop in line with the latest trends.
