THE AIM OF THE PAPER
The aim of the research is to find out which clusters companies can be classified into in terms of the application of the principles of the circular economy and whether belonging to a cluster is related to different types of corporate culture. The study examines which corporate cultures are more likely to integrate circular principles and thus how cultural characteristics contribute to achieving sustainability goals.
METHODOLOGY
The measurable requirements of the circular economy framework were examined as environmental goals, such as reducing the use of natural resources, emissions and material losses, increasing the use of renewable and recyclable resources and the durability of products. Corporate cultures were typified based on the Cameron-Quinn model, with the categories: market, clan, adhocracy, hierarchy. The research was conducted as a questionnaire survey among 128 Hungarian enterprises. The statistical analyses were implemented using cluster analysis and cross-tabulation analysis methods.
MOST IMPORTANT RESULTS
hree significantly different clusters of circular economy principles were identified in the sample (Leaders, Moderates, Laggards). The results of the research show that the clan culture supports the circular objectives, and that enterprises with a clan culture are associated with the cluster of the Leaders.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Among the Cameron-Quinn culture types, elements of clan culture, such as caring for people instead of pursuing profit, sensitivity to customers, and increasing employee commitment to the organization, support the embedding of sustainability and circular economy goals in organizations. It is recommended that leaders who are influential in shaping organizational culture and keep sustainability goals in mind are encouraged to increase the prevalence of clan-type elements in the dominant corporate culture.
