Abstract

THE AIM OF THE PAPER

Due to the Covid-19 virus outbreak in early 2020, the importance of the food industry in our country has also been highlighted. The importance of the country's self-sufficiency, with small and medium-sized enterprises being important players, was demonstrated. As a result, from 2021 onwards, entrepreneurs have had access to a wide range of funding for development. The aim of the study is to examine whether the Covid situation will accelerate investment in digitalisation tools through the resulting calls for proposals and to see what direction the funding opportunities will encourage firms to take.

METHODOLOGY

The exploratory research is based on a hybrid analysis of secondary sources, which includes both literature and tender data. The literature is processed in the form of a bibliometric analysis, while the tenders and policy objectives are analysed through a manual content analysis.

MOST IMPORTANT RESULTS

The results of the research show that the support of domestic food industry is also pushed towards digitalisation by tendering opportunities. In the case of eligible activities, development directions for automated production systems, manufacturing technologies, sensor and control technologies are the main focus, as well as investments in robotics and smart manufacturing solutions (GINOP call for proposals 1.2.12-21, 2021). In addition, in response to the Covid-19 wave, calls for proposals to support further development and survival of Hungarian operators have been launched in 2021 (GINOP-PLUSZ-1.2.1-21 call for proposals, 2021).

RECOMMENDATIONS

The study aims to provide practitioners an overview of the relationship between economic policy objectives and implementation options, raising their awareness of the benefits of digital-enabled operations.
