Abstract

THE AIMS OF THE PAPER

The significance of the education of the employees in the public sector has been increased during the last decades. The most important task of the human resource management in public administration has become the selection of competent employees as well as refreshing of their knowledge. A national training system for the workforce in the public sector was introduced in Hungary on 1st January 2014. The first 4-year training period ended on 31st December 2017. We monitored the results and the practical experience of this 4-year long period, which we studied with a survey based on a sample of 1000 respondents. The present study shows the results of the satisfaction research of the top position civil servants referring to their participation in leadership training.

METHODOLOGY

Primary research was conducted in Hungary via an online survey. Civil servants working in the municipalities were the target of the questionnaire. Responses were analyzed by SPSS, we used multivariate regression analysis with Forward method.

MOST IMPORTANT RESULTS

According to our results, the three most important factors of satisfaction with leadership training are the following: meeting a priori expectations; knowledge that is applicable in everyday work activities; and having a good time.

Other significant factors are the novelty of the knowledge, the attractiveness of the training program and the method of examination.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Our results show that if we want to increase satisfaction with leadership trainings, more emphasis is needed on meeting a priori needs, and provision of knowledge which is useful in everyday work. According to respondents, the third most important dimension is that they should have a good time, so further researches could reveal the factors which can create a favourable atmosphere.
