Abstract

THE AIM OF THE PAPER
The operation of the ISO standard management system in accordance with the standard requirements can boast of continuous development, including in terms of commitment to quality. Standard management systems, including the ISO 9001 standard containing the requirements for quality
management systems, are an important part of the everyday life of competitive organizations. The Covid-19 crisis had a significant impact on the operation of quality management systems. Examining the systems from the perspective of the significance of quality management principles and standard requirements, the results contribute to a more effective response of organizations to such and similar crisis situations in the future. A comprehensive examination of all quality management
standard requirements will not be analyzed due to the scope limitations of this study. Among the quality management standard requirements, the requirements of the standard chapter on leadership engagement are analyzed from the perspective of which standard requirements have changed in importance during the Covid-19 crisis, which ones organizations had to deal with in particular under the changed circumstances. I also examine whether the quality management principles that form the basis of quality management systems, which quality management principles have become more important for organizations during the Covid-19 crisis?

METHODOLOGY
The study presents the results of a Hungarian sample questionnaire survey, in which it examines the corporate reactions to the Covid 19 pandemic in nearly a thousand responding organizations, from the perspective of how the role of leadership has changed during the Covid-19 crisis, taking into account the change in the significance of the relevant quality management principles and the standard requirements for leadership engagement.

MOST IMPORTANT RESULTS
The results of the research show that, among the requirements of the Leadership Engagement standard chapter, the customer focus, leadership engagement, compliance with the organizational roles, responsibilities and powers requirement, and consultation and employee participation standard requirements were considered by organizations to be the most significant in the Covid-19 crisis.

RECOMMENDATIONS
The results of the research can be applied by the organizations using the standard in everyday practice, responding to similar crisis situations in the future with appropriate standard measures, and by the certification organizations during the certification process, focusing on compliance with standard requirements in a crisis situation and their verification.
