Abstract

THE AIMS OF THE PAPER

Based on international experience, the exploration of the effects induced by mobility and the demarcation of its dimensions: theoretical foundation of a quantitative research that can be used to quantify the effects of Hungarian international mobility.

METHODOLOGY

A descriptive study based on literature studies explores the social and economic impacts of youth mobility, and hence the role of learning in learning processes and enhancing competitiveness.

MOST IMPORTANT RESULTS

International learning experience clearly develops the competences and skills of participants in mobility programs. It can be stated that the primary objective of international mobility is to enrich professional competences with the knowledge gained abroad. In addition, foreign language and intercultural competence, adaptable, problem-solving and communication skills, and the ability to integrate into a multilingual environment will surely develop. Last but not least, mobility gives participants the opportunity to expand their personal and professional relationships.

That is why it is extremely important that sending countries are motivated by motivational means and measures to mobilize their young people to return to their experiences. Thus, the state-of-the-art, marketable know-how gained abroad will serve to expand knowledge, development, innovation, economic and scientific development and competitiveness in the sending country. Returning is therefore a key element of mobility processes.

RECOMMENDATIONS

The impact of international mobility has to be fundamentally examined in four areas: social, economic, institutional and individual. In addition, exciting research results suggest the social and economic realization of the labor market benefits of additional knowledge and competences gained through mobility, but also the effects on individuals.

Particular attention should be paid to teacher / researcher mobility, which is a higher part of the role of knowledge sharing and development, and the emergence of a new approach(s) in education and research.
