Abstract

If we turn our attention to the national parliaments of African countries and only consider the number of female politicians, it may seem that in some countries the realization of gender equality in politics is not at all impossible. Currently, the parliament of an East African country, Rwanda, has the highest number of female politicians in the world, with 49% of the representatives being women. In addition, in 2004, a female prime minister was elected in Mozambique, Luisa Diogo, not for the first time in African history, and in 2005, in Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf entered the ranks of political leaders as the first female president of the continent.
