Hungary's opportunity for an independent foreign policy only materialised in 1918, but by the 1920s, the country had already established bilateral trade and business relations with African countries. This study aims to provide a historical overview of the Hungarian corporate sector's presence in Africa, detailing the formation of these connections between the two World Wars, their interruption as a consequence of the war, and their resurgence in the 1960s and 70s. It also addresses Hungary's role in Africa's development and trade, and the renewed vigour in these relationships since 2015, driven by the new strategy.
