Abstract

The subject of my study is a regional nation-building practice based on originality, the “authentic” world experience that can be marketed in tourism, as well as the borrowed, rediscovered “as-original” form of life, and its encounter with the idea of building a regional or metropolitan identity. In short, it is something that has now entered anthropological thinking and has a place among contemporary tourism theories. The following is not based on the material of a longer field research but on adventurous presence and participant observation, while also building on what is offered by the available literature.
