Abstract

Africa’s (or at least South Africa’s) time has come!  The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) decided to host the 2010 World Cup. However, the exclamation point faded into a period and then turned into a question mark as the big event approached. Numerous shortcomings, half-finished stadium investments, strikes, a catastrophic security situation, and fears have characterized the last two or three years. However, despite all the problems, FIFA stuck to its position and even denied the news of a Plan B, which was a positive message for Africa and the host country.
