Abstract

The parallel and similar events in the histories of Hungary and South Africa facilitated their rapprochement in the 1980s and 1990s, one result of which was the establishment of the Magyarországi Dél-Afrika Egyesület (Hungarian-South African Association) in 1990. This organisation became a key facilitator in fostering understanding and developing relations between the two countries. The report places the association's activities within the historical contexts of both Hungary and South Africa, mentioning its successes and challenges, and its contributions to the positive change in mutual perception between the two states and their societies. It also touches on the community's plans for the future.
