Abstract

The level of aviation technology in the 1920s and 1930s did not allow aircraft to fly non-stop from Europe to Ibero-America. All airlines needed strategic airport bases along the air routes, which provided the technical background for intercontinental flights. When planning the South Atlantic air route, the Azores or the Canary Islands could have been considered.
