Abstract

In Hungary, the first tourism destination management (TDM) organizations were founded in 2008, which introduced a
new approach to tourism management. In this, the author wants to present the experiences of the implementation of
the strategic approach and the way of thinking in a new organizational system organized from below. The
geographical framework for the study is set out in 1861/2016. (XII. 27.) Government of the Republic of Hungary
gives the Balaton priority tourism development area. Due to the complexity of tourism, it requires long-term,
conscious and consistent planning, so it is of utmost importance that a holistic approach and strategic approach are
implemented in the planning and management of tourism in specific areas. In the preparation of the study we rely on
the literature and secondary sources to explore the theoretical framework, while the practical experience comes from
the evaluation of structured interviews with the TDM managers / managers of the examined area.
