Abstract

The tourism development of the Hungarian Lower Danube valley did not eventuate significant growth in
tourist traffic in the last few decades. The development of the local tourist destinations and the regional
cooperation along Danube failed. The tourism investments during the period between 2007-2013 evetuated
new attractions but did not cause growth neither in capacity of the commercial accomodations, nor in the
guest circulation.
The tourism development of Danube and the Channel of Sió, which is Danube’s affluent, are goals
too, which could contribute to catching up the disadvantaged area and joining to the tourism sector. The
natural and cultural endowments of Danube-Sió tourism region create a nationally significant destination.
The expansion of the nuclear power plant and the Limes declaration to World Heritage will eventuate
foreign tourist circulation. The change of organizational background of tourism brings new challenges to the
participants and gives opportunities for new initiatives.
