Dr. Géza Füssi Nagy (1946–2008) was one of the founding figures of Hungarian African studies. He is remembered not only as an outstanding scholar, but also as an exceptional educator and humanist. Throughout his career, he played a key role in introducing Swahili language and culture in Hungary, enriching Hungarian African studies with textbooks, dictionaries, and translations of various literary works.
He also sought to serve the continent by helping to establish the Hungarian Africa Society and the African Studies Education Program. His teaching methods, grounded in practical, firsthand experience, and his human-centered approach left a lasting impact on his students and on the field of African studies in Hungary.
His legacy lives on in his translations, scholarly works, and in all those he inspired.
