Abstract

Due to the oddities of film distribution, Clint Eastwood's 2009 film Invictus was not released in cinemas in Hungary (it was released in May, at the time of our press conference, and was eventually only available on DVD). The film, based on John Carlin's 2008 novel (Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Made a Nation), is set in 1995 and, through the real-life encounters between newly inaugurated President Nelson Mandela and the captain of the South African rugby team, François Pienaar (pictured in the first photo on page 40), revives the dramatic moments of a sporting event, a faded memory of the years of transformation.
