Abstract

On February 14, 2015 Nigerian voters will again go to the polls to chose from the incumbent president or a former military dictator. Many think—especially the numerous young people of the federal country—neither of them would be good for the coming years. High youth unemployment, rampant corrption and the Boko Haram insurgency—all are among the heavy challenges the forthcoming president must face for his 4-year term. What about national and regional security and Nigeria’s place and role in the continent and beyond? All these will be determined by the new course, and how it will be seen, interpreted and accepted by the citizens of Nigeria and the external actors of the international scene. The paper offers an analysis of the major questions of the elections.
