Abstract

The present study is originally a postscript of L. S. Senghor’s confessional volume published in Hungarian some months ago (originally: Ce que je crois, 1988, Paris, in Hungarian: 2015), now corrected and significantly expanded. The author has gathered data on the great Senegalese poetpolitician’s reception in Hungary, and offers an interpretation of Senghor’s poetry. At the same time, he rejects the accusations made against the négritude movement. Even, he considers it a cornerstone of the inclusion of African culture into world culture. The study also praises the richness and diversity of the literary works born in the spirit of the movement, and highlights their importance.
