Abstract
Dear Readers,
I am delighted to report to you that the Hungarian Journal of African Studies has been published for 13 years and has been gaining the momentum to get respected from various walks of life beyond the ever so important scientific circles. We can say with confidence that we are on the right track if we look at the hit record of uploaded publications and citations within the Hungarian National Scientific Bibliography (MTMT) about our journal. Of course, we aspire for reaching higher levels of recognition, both within the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (where at the moment two committees ranked us as C-category scientific journal) and in the international academic community with larger impact and citation history – our annual English-language issue will surely contribute to this.
This present double issue with its heavy collection of articles can undoubtedly strengthen such a position. Current security policy questions are investigated by Viktor Marsai in the region of East Africa. Also, within this geographic realm, but focussing on the East African Community Member States, Judit Bagi deals with women and land issues. Szabolcs Pásztor then offers an intriguing piece about the monetary policy challenges of Sub-Saharan Africa. Daniel Solymári and his co-authors turn our attention to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and cutting, and its eradication quest in Kenya. Anna Lator talks about the role of media discourse in genocide rape in Rwanda, both pieces again based on substantial field research. The issue is supplemented with a large review section, which gives an overview of numerous Hungarian, French and English books from the past few years. I do believe that you will find the one you are interested in the most! Best wishes for the rest of the summer, faithfully yours,
Dr. Búr Gábor
