Abstract

The community (small settlements) health planning program in Hungary has a 15-year history. In a few years, the NGO initiative reached the level of national health policy, and now it is an integral part of the New Széchenyi Plan Health Promotion Program. Local governments play a key role in the preparation of health plans. Local health policy, as well as the sustainability of health plans is built on the broad participation of local community members and on the implementation of the programs based on local resources and competencies.
