Abstract

The phenomenon of drunkorexia resurfaces often in the media. Drunkorexia is neither an eating disorder nor another mental disorder, although some of the symptoms are in agreement with some of the symptoms of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. The phenomenon can be examined in the context of society and culture. In the current article authors underline the impact of media messages, which suggest that alcohol consumption has positive effects; and idealize thin body. These two core messages may serve as foundations for the appearance of drunkorexia.
