Abstract

The author explores recent changes in substance use patterns as a symptom of the deepening crisis of consumer society and culture. The conclusion of the current article, written from the perspective of discourse studies, that an adequate response concerning the problem of addictions implies strengthening of reconstructive communities, first and foremost, self-help fellowships.
