Abstract

In this study, I first outline the antecedents and course of the Liberian civil war that took place between 1989 and 2003, one of the consequences of which was the approximately 250,000 civilians fleeing to Sierra Leone in 2002. The UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees)—the UN refugee agency—counts a total of approximately 700,000 refugees who have spent more than three months abroad. In the second part of the study, I intend to provide a comprehensive picture of the placement of civilians, with particular attention to the Largo refugee camp, its organizational and structural structure, and its operational mechanism.
