The first Hungarian Teleki Expedition
Abstract
This article is a time travelling, a narrative and a tribute as well. A time travelling since it sends us back to the communist era in Hungary, into the world of the “Party”, the “committees”, the “stateowned companies” and the “comrades”, where a few young researchers interested in Africa decide to undertake an honourable expedition: for the occasion of the centenary of the hunter and traveller Sámuel Teleki’s wanders in Eastern Africa, they visit the lands discovered by him. The article summarizes the hardships of organization, the preparation, and the media responses of this tribute. The author, as one of the participants of this adventure, remembers the journey and its circumstances in a realistic and enjoyable way.
