Ten countries’ treasure – The Nile
Abstract
The 6,850 km long Nile is not only Africa’s but the world’s longest river as well. Its importance is clearly visible in the extraordinary role in ancient Egypt’s economic and cultural development and by that in the development of the entire human civilization. Let us only think about the evolution of irrigation farming and the related technical, theoretical, mythological, scientific development, and the appearance of urban lifestyle. The Nile basin stretches through ten countries, from Central-Africa all the way up to the Mediterranean Sea. However crucial water is not a blessing issue in every sense of its meaning. Efforts to hold possession of decreasing resources have generated conflicts between countries and peoples.
