Abstract

South Sudan became independent from Sudan in 2011 as a result of a unanimous referendum, following prolonged civil wars. The new state's economy is largely based on its significant oil reserves, whose export depends on relations with Sudan. The study focuses on the active involvement of the European Union and its member states in the development of South Sudan and the promotion of political stability, addressing the country's challenges in governance, security, and economic sustainability. It also emphasises the motivations and goals of the more prominent and active states in the region.
