The hypothesis of the paper is that the operation of heritage sites, castles has a strong potential that
can be converted into a strength if, on the one hand, efforts are made for the entertainment of the
visitors and for building out the experience service; on the other hand, if castles identify themselves
not solely as a heritage tourism product but show willingness to accommodate the full range of
cultural tourism products within the historical walls.
The case study is a collection of the good practices of castle tourism in Germany, as a verification
of the above statement. The focus is on the best examples of successful operation, innovative
solutions, the practice of “living castles”, paying attention to dominant linkages to cultural tourism.
