Abstract

Tourism is always a special feature in a rural area: due to the scope of the tourist offer of the visited region,
it is not the only type of tourism that can attract the visitors to the region. This is also true in the Letenye
micro-region, which is in our focus. Many people are still preconceptions about a rural destination that they
really do not have what to do there, and there is nothing to spend on leisure. The question is how this
assumption changes when someone has spent a few days in such a rustic destination? What is the difference
between choosing a countryside instead of a city trip or a waterfront vacation? In our study, we compared
the results of two quantitative studies. We have noted that rural tourism is no longer equal to passive pastime
or 'observation' at the host; walking, cycling or visiting the cultural values of the region is the dominant
leisure time.
