Keywords:
shopping tourism, same-day visit, HungaryAbstract
Shopping tourism has had a significant role in the dynamic growth of the number and spending of foreign
visitors in Hungary in the past few years. Shopping tourists are on one hand important factors in the
dynamization of border areas, and on the other hand, according to the academic literature, the spending of
shopping tourists can be interpreted as economic indicators of a rapidly changing environment. The study
analyzes the shopping tourism in Hungary through the purchases of visitors from neighboring countries,
covering almost the whole of the shopping tourism in the country. I will examine to what extent the
spending of shopping tourists responds to changes in prices and incomes in Hungary and in neighboring
countries, i.e. whether they are characterized by the elasticity expected from an economic indicator, as
described in many parts of the academic literature.
