Abstract

This study analyzes, from a territorial perspective, the role of mixed-profile smallholdings in biodiversity enhancement that aim to meet efficiency, equity, and ecological requirements at the same time. These smallholdings can demonstrate alternatives to farming practices and land concentration that focus on large fields and monocultures in that ecosystem regeneration and the wider agricultural application of regenerative principles can help improve the state of the environment. In addition, by improving the potential of local income generation, they can support compliance with equity criteria as well as the maintenance of mental health in rural areas, also boosting the resilience of settlements and retaining their population.
