Considerations on transmorphemization. The monograph by Rudolf Flipović (Teorija jezika u kontaktu. Uvod u lingvistiku jezičnih dodira, 1986) became a model for Croatian language contact research. The applicability of Filipović's transmorphemization theory to language contacts of the Croatian language with Italian, Hungarian, German and French is examined in this article. Filipović’s theory is based exclusively on the analysis of Croatian-English language contact. This gives rise to some difficulties in transferring Filipović’s patterns to other languages. The authors of the individual studies, with the exception of one, do not modify Filipović’s definitions, although they have recognized the problem. The inadequate interpretation of the structure of some words and the incorrect definition of some nouns indicate that linguistic-historical aspects were not considered.
