Call for Papers – African Studies in the Eastern European Context

The Hungarian Journal of African Studies/Afrika Tanulmányok is inviting submissions for a special thematic issue focusing on African Studies in Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries not compromised with a colonial past in Africa.

This special issue should animate scholarly inquiry about the conditions of knowledge production about Africa in their own countries to secure a more effective communication of ideas concerning future activities and cooperation amongst institutions and consider various aspects of the future development of teaching and research.

Afrika Tanulmányok/Hungarian Journal of African Studies has been published continuously since 2007, issuing at least three numbers each volume, and it has become one of the most important scholarly fora of Hungarian African Studies. To increase the journal’s international visibility, two of our annual issues have been published entirely in English for a number of years, and—together with the Hungarian issues—are made accessible to readers on the unified and user-friendly OJS/PKP platform.

Call for Papers - Thematic Issue Vol 20 No 3 (2026)

Preparing for the 20th volume of the journal in 2026, this thematic issue of the Hungarian Journal of African Studies (HJAS) emerges from the International Conference on the Nature of the State in Africa in the 21st Century: Challenges, Transformations and Prospects, held from 22–24 October 2025 at the University of Nairobi, jointly hosted by the Department of Political Science and Public Administration and the Africa Research Centre, University of Pécs (Hungary). The issue seeks to consolidate and expand the event's intellectual contributions, advancing scholarly debates on African governance, sovereignty, and state transformation while welcoming related submissions from scholars who did not participate in the conference.
