Abstract

After the 1990s the UN missions have failed in Somalia: the state has diasappeared from the international interest as long as the country came into the front again with the more frequent pirate attacks. The international community has not found the solution yet for the twenty years of outstanding anarchical status in Somalia which does not help ending the pirate activities. The EU NAVFOR Atalanta plays important role in piracy rollback and protecting aid transports while the EUTM Somalia optimizes the public security and restores the administration in this failed state. This study investigates these two missions’ background, the spread of piracy and its functioning. In addition, this work pays attention also on the participation of Hungarian Defence Forces in Somalia.
