Abstract

Transcarpathia is one of the regions in Europe where, over the centuries, people of different
nationalities and religions have settled as a result of numerous empire changes, resulting in a very
unique ethno-cultural environment in the area. Most of the nationalities, such as Hungarians,
Romanians, Slovaks, Swabians, Romani, Ruthenians, Ukrainians and Russians, still preserve their
ethnographic, cultural and religious traditions and culinary characteristics. The centuries of
coexistence, a mixture of languages, different folk traditions and gastronomy, resulted in the special
features of today's Transcarpathia: unique hospitality, folk art and culinary diversity, as well as
local products also referred to in Hungarian as the Carpathicums. The latter are also the starting
point of our research, in which we try to provide an insight into the diverse range of products related
to the traditional production culture in Transcarpathia, as well as to highlight the tourism
opportunities hidden in them.
