Abstract

The industrial heritage is the unique and non-renewable source of our past and present, the component of
national and universal culture, the identity of the population and the population retention capacity of the
settlements. The experiences of recent decades show that although today there are good examples of cultural
and tourism utilization of industrial buildings, still the industrial and technical heritage of the Hungarian
culture has got into inequitable situation. It is necessary to develop the ability to exploit industrial cultural
heritage especially in those regions, where people live in a disadvantaged social situation due to the
economic restructuring that has taken place (DRÓTOS 2007). Therefore, the aim of this research is to
examine the good domestic and international examples and difficulties of tourism utilization in case of the
industrial heritage. By taking good examples, it is possible to preserve and utilize unused industrial
buildings for present and future generations.
