Online Local History Photo Collection at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics

Abstract

The following study presents the photo collection in the Archives of the Budapest  University of Technology and Economics. It covers in detail the composition of the  photo stock, the purposes for which the photographs were taken, and the difficulties  laid in describing and processing photographs from university and private sources. The  study also defines aspects related to collecting and (online) publication of the photos,  emphasizing the role of archives as community-based local history photo collections. The  writing sheds light on how photos can be used as a visual resource for those involved in  university history writing, as well as for the university and its citizens.
