About the Journal
The University of Pécs launched its online periodical Per Aspera ad Astra, Publications on the Cultural and University History of the University of Pécs in 2014. In addition to presenting the research work of the academic workshops of the University of Pécs, the journal offers a publication opportunity for the university staff and researchers investigating social and cultural history as well as history of education and science.
The institutional background of the journal is provided by the initiators of its foundation, the Historical Collections Department of the University Library and Knowledge Centre of the University of Pécs, as well as the University Archives. The responsible publisher of the periodical is the current Rector of the University of Pécs, and the founding editor-in-chief is Prof. Dr. Ágnes Fischer-Dárdai. Dr. Petra Polyák, Chief Archivist of the Baranya County Archives of the National Archives of Hungary, has been the editor-in-chief of the journal since 2019.
The journal is published twice a year. In the Studies section, it publishes academic, comprehensive and analytical articles and case studies in line with the theme of the issue. The Workshop section offers shorter workshop papers that primarily present the achievements of national workshops and the research groups of the University of Pécs. The aim of the journal is also to cherish remembrance of the university, so, in the Retrospect section, the journal places special emphasis on the publication of life and career interviews with university professors who have had an exceptional career and with prominent personalities who have shaped the life of the institution.
The Review section publishes reviews of the latest books on university and cultural history.
Per Aspera ad Astra operates in an open access format, making its publications available free of charge to anyone on the Internet, thus targeting a wider readership beyond the scientific community. Studies published in the journal are assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier).
