This paper focuses on the typological and sociocultural aspects of Hungarian–German comparative linguistics. The key question is the following: Why is there a relatively easy transition between German and Hungarian despite the genetic differences between the two languages? The paper focuses on the following topics:
1. Hungarian–German relations in terms of vocabulary;
2. Excerpts from the history of Hungarian–German language teaching;
3. Structural-typological similarities from a cognitive point of view.
