Vol. 7 (2024): Minority – Community – Nation

The theme of the seventh volume of Pontes once again reflects a jubilee. The selection of studies for the journal is based on the anniversary of the Andreanum, a medieval document issued in 1224 by King Andrew II, a privilege given to the Transylvanian Saxons, and is organised around the keywords minority, community and nation. The studies examine aspects of the three concepts from the Middle Ages to the present day. Most of the authors are members of the Institute of History at the University of Pécs, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, but three foreign colleagues have also published important articles in our journal. Paul Srodecki's article analyses the religiously motivated constructions of identity, alternity and alienation in the medieval and early modern periods, while Daniel Lazăr's study provides insights into the links between Yugoslav refugees and the Romanian Securitate. Eldina Lovaš has a thousand ties to our Institute and the city, and this is also reflected in her paper, in which the historian from Osijek analyses the 18th century last testaments of Croats in Pécs. In addition to these, Márta Font's essay deals with Eastern European refugees in the 11th and 13th centuries, Zsolt Vitári analyses the rise to prominence of youth in the group formation process of Germans in Hungary, while Beáta Márkus examines the monuments of the German minority in Hungary. Of course, we would like to recommend the publications, the reviews, the interview and the summaries of doctoral dissertations as well.

Pontes is the annual of the Institution of History (University of Pécs, Faculty of Humanities). The issue contains thematic studies in the even years which represent the scientific achievements of the whole institution. The departments compile the editions in the odd years, which cover their era. The annual is open for the whole scientific community and welcomes studies from authors outside the Institute.
