Abstract

The main motivation of the omnibus questionnaire survey conducted in the spring of 2018
was the study of Hungarian waterfronts from several aspects. Which waterfronts are the most
popular in the country today, what kind of supply is needed in tourism by the visitors? It was
important to define a current picture of the popularity of waterfronts in Hungary, the activities
on the waterfront and the services available, especially the attractiveness of the Danube compared
to the other water destinations. In Europe, a great boost was observed in river tourism,
so it was assumed by the creation of the questionnaire that domestic visitors and tourists were
also interested in domestic waterfronts. The primary purpose of the study is to focus scientific
attention on domestic waterfront visitor habits, on the tourism development opportunities
explored by the questionnaire, the needs and opinions of visitors, and the need of quality
improvement in services belonging directly or indirectly to tourism services.
