Abstract

In this article we would like to show the connection between the development possibilities of tourism and
renewable energy. In our opinion using alternative energy increases the efficiency of tourism and creates a
sustainable environment for tourism-based development. On the other hand, an impoverished region – home
to so many relatively underused natural, geological, historical and architectural heritage sites – harnessing
renewable energy sources is a perfect tool for economic and social development. Furthermore, this process
is a technical condition of the valorization of possible destinations as presented in our sample area, Nógrád–
Novohrad Geopark, Hungary.
