Abstract

This study aims to critically analyse the dual nature of the impact of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) on the hotel industry. The research seeks to answer, on the one hand, what micro- and macroeconomic challenges and opportunities the CSDDD creates for the hotel industry, and, on the other hand, how hotel companies can integrate the requirements of the CSDDD into their existing strategic processes in order to remain competitive. At the macro level, the study provides the EU with a norm-setting role, through past and present examples, and analyses the structural transformation of the hotel industry’s labour market. The study concludes that the CSDDD is much more than an administrative burden; it is a strategic catalyst, the successful implementation of which requires specific, targeted corporate and policy strategies.
