Abstract

The widespread application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems in business is reshaping the job market, yet the extent to which this technological potential has translated into practical adoption remains an open question. Our study examines the presence of AI-related job opportunities in Hungary by analyzing over 1.3 million online job advertisements collected between 2019 and 2024. Our goal is to provide a data-driven assessment of the AI labor market in Hungary, analyze its temporal dynamics, sectoral adoption, and identify emerging corporate strategies.

AI systems have undergone multiple waves of development, from the early symbolic expert systems of the 1950s to the dominance of Machine Learning (ML) in the early 2000s. A major breakthrough occurred in 2012 with Deep Learning proving its superiority in various applications. The next paradigm shift came after 2020 with the emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs), which demonstrated broad problem-solving capabilities and led to an unprecedented surge in AI-driven automation. The global excitement surrounding OpenAI's ChatGPT in 2022 significantly increased interest in AI applications across industries.
