Abstract

The evolution of domestic natural gas consumption over the period of approximately 20 years between 2006 and 2024 was quite variable in point of boom and recession periods, structural changes and crises (e.g. the economic and financial crisis of 2008/09, the COVID19 or the gas-price increase of 2022). However, due to the dominant use for heating, the effect of temperature makes the picture even more complicated. In addition to the classic decomposition of the seasonal adjustment, I also present the extreme temperature-corrected natural gas consumption and the decomposition of the changes into temperature-dependent and not temperature-dependent parts. The calculations were implemented in the open source programming language R.
