About the Journal

The title of the journal, which was launched within the framework of the Institute of History of the University of Pécs, Pontes, refers to the "bridges" connecting the Institute's departments teaching different historical periods, the personal and thematic links between them, and the Institute's relations with the domestic and international historical research. One of the aims of the journal is to provide cross-period scholarly insights into broader themes or problem areas, which reflect the research areas of the Institute's faculty, as well as to link to recent international historical research and raise new methodological questions. On the other hand, it also seeks to give the Institute's departments the opportunity to show their own "image" and strengthen their own "bridges" with the national and international scientific world.

In the spirit of this approach, Pontes is presented alternately with two types of content. The even-numbered years, starting with the first issue, produce thematic volumes compiled at Institute level, while the odd-numbered years, until 2025, will see the Institute's individual departments editing their own periodicals, progressing chronologically. The journal is naturally open to a wide range of disciplines and fields, and is equally receptive to the work of both domestic and foreign workshops, so the Institute of History welcomes contributions from authors nation- and worldwide.
