The political, social, and economic crisis in Venezuela has caused one of the largest emigrations waves in recent years. Chile and Spain have long been attractive destinations for Latin American migrants, due to their economic development. However, since the start of the “Venezuelan exodus” in 2015, both countries have experienced a substantial influx of Venezuelan migrants. This study examines Venezuelan migration to Chile and Spain. It focuses on their migration policies; particularly recent trends related to integration and citizenship access. Comparing a European country with a South American offers an opportunity to examine the changing dynamics between the Global North and the Global South. Despite having similar cultural traditions and a common language, the two countries implemented different solutions for migrant integration. This study will highlight good practices and major challenges based on an analysis of databases, public policies, and academic literature.
