Methods of portrayal in Kazincy’s oeuvre

Abstract

In my paper I argue that Ferenc Kazinczy’s concept of the portrait covers not only the practice of pantheonization and idealisation, but also addresses the problem of visual representation, and the medial relationship between portraits in the written and the visual arts as well. I try to define the types of description for the persons represented in biographies, obituaries, writer’s portraits, and memoirs, also discussing the influence of physiognomical thinking on Kazinczy
