Abstract

Young people, especially university students, are a key target group for research focusing on environment and climate protection. Research in previous years have shown that this generation is basically open to sustainability but tends to take actions with lower sacrifices in their everyday lives.

The aim of this research is to assess the awareness regarding sustainability and to identify what sacrifices they make during the travels to be "green" in the case of tourism habits of the first-year Hungarian and international students attending the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Pannonia.

The results show that students tend to be more inclined to take easy actions that do not go together with a lot of sacrifice regarding their tourism consumption. They are also reluctant to give up their comfort but are open to new solutions. They also prefer to choose destinations that offer quiet holiday in natural areas.
